The pewter whale oil lamp shown has a cylindrical font on a tall base. It is marked Gleason and measures 8" tall by 3 3/4" diameter base. It was made about 1830-1840. The burner is brass and tin and screws into the font.

Roswell Gleason lived in Dorchester, Massachusetts and had a prolific business. His designs and quality were better than many of his contemporaries.
