OVEDA MAURER
      FOLK ART ANTIQUES

Oveda Maurer Folk Art Antiques began in 1977 in San Anselmo, California. From the first time I explored the countryside of Pennsylvania and found the American antique furniture and antique folk art, I was hooked. The country auctions & dealers were a rich source of early American objects in those days.

The country dealers' friendly attitude and generous spirit make me return often. New England, though very different, is equally enticing. I attend  seminars, visit museums, wander in the country stores and attend auction previews. The more I am immersed in American antique furniture and early American objects, the more I learn.

The antiques business has changed over the past years. Much more is happening online and I am getting used to doing business that way. But I miss the face to face contact of customers. Despite the internet's practicality, it is hard to describe the aroma of American antique furniture when a drawer is opened, or the feel of early tool marks on their surfaces. The wear from years of cleaning antique folk art leaves a smooth surface that beckons to be felt.

Antique folk art has been a focus in the shop since the shop opened. In earlier years it was  called decorative arts.  American antique furniture and American antique folk art pair up naturally. They have always lived together and complement one another.
